John & Eileen Landis
Endowment Fund
The John and Eileen Landis Endowment Fund has been established at Jubilee Ministries to honor John and Eileen’s lifelong commitment to Christ and their faithfulness in the leadership and founding of Jubilee Ministries. In 1972, John was a young leader in the Mennonite Church with a passion for youth ministry. After years of falling youth attendance, John called the leaders to pray. John was leading a small group of youth when the Lord moved in a mighty way among the youth and they became “on fire” for the Lord! John faithfully led this group as it quickly grew in size and zeal. John led them in service work and then boldly went before the prison to allow this youth group to minister to inmates. As this ministry flourished, John led in the formation of a new ministry, which was named Jubilee Ministries.
Over the last 40 years the ministry has grown and currently supports 17 chaplains in nine correctional facilities throughout south central Pennsylvania. Here the Jubilee chaplains share the gospel, teach, and counsel with many inmates. The Jubilee aftercare program for newly released prisoners provides housing, employment, and additional life-skills training, all with a Christ-centered approach.
Additionally, the ministry runs five thrift stores which provide nearly eighty-percent of the ministries’ funding but more importantly also provides on-the-job training and employment for the ministries’ aftercare program and affordable clothing and other merchandise for people who cannot afford new.
Once the John and Eileen Landis Endowment Fund has been established, no income will flow out of the fund for operations until the corpus of the fund is over $100,000. It is anticipated that contributions over time will grow this fund to $1,000,000 or more. Funds will be invested in a conservative manner and disbursements shall not exceed 4% of the fund value at the end of each year. These funds will allow for continued expansion of the ministry and create a lasting testament to the vision and mission of John and Eileen and the original youth group that started it all.
