OUR LOGO

The Jubilee Logo is a Shofar…

A WHAT!?!?

A shofar is a ram’s horn fashioned into a trumpet-like instrument. It was blown as part of ancient Jewish religious ceremonies, for military purposes, and to mark notable events on their religious calendar. The shofar is blown today during Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year).

THE SHOFAR IN SCRIPTURE

The Year of Jubilee

LEVITICUS 25 (CLICK PASSAGE TO READ)

The shofar was blown to announce the beginning of the year of Jubilee. The year of Jubilee was celebrated every 50 years, and marked a time when land was returned to its original owner, and people – slaves, captives, those displaced from their homeland – could once again reunite with their own clans, on the property of their ancestors. Jubilee was a year of restoration – a season of great grace allowing people to return to where they were intended to dwell.

In the Prophets

ISAIAH 61:1-2 (CLICK PASSAGE TO READ)

The prophet Isaiah connects the coming Messiah (Jesus) to the year of Jubilee, and the restoration offered to those most in need of freedom and life change.

LUKE 4:18-21 (CLICK PASSAGE TO READ)

In the Gospel of Luke, the prophet Isaiah’s words are repeated by Jesus. He declares Himself to be the fulfillment of the year of Jubilee! There is no longer a 50, 25, or even a 1-year wait for restoration. It is available now and forevermore, through Jesus Christ, to the poor, prisoners, blind, and oppressed.

The Gospels

And Now Today…

Going Deeper…

Yowbel is the Old Testament word in the Hebrew language that means both ram’s horn and jubilee! Yowbel is both the instrument AND the festival or season that the instrument introduced.

When you see our logo and name next to one another, you know that they are closely connected in meaning, and to the concepts of life change, restoration, and freedom in Christ!

Jubilee exists to serve those affected by incarceration by being ambassadors of life change through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
